Who is Eligible for Home Health Care?
To be eligible for Medicare-covered home health care, you must meet the following criteria:
• You must be under a physician's care, and the physician must authorize home health services.
• You must require a skilled, intermittent service such as skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech therapy.
• You must be homebound due to an illness or injury which makes it difficult for you to leave your home without assistance.
What is homebound?
Medicare's definition of "homebound" is "there exists a normal inability to leave home and, consequently, leaving home would require a considerable and taxing effort".
What services are included in home health care?
Home health care services may include skilled nursing, rehabilitation therapies (physical, occupational, or speech), certified home health aide assistance, medical social worker support, wound care, pain management, medication monitoring, and education for patients and families.
